The difference between Glass pearl and Freshwater Pearls.
Freshwater Pearls – these are natural or cultured/farmed pearls which grow naturally inside freshwater mussels. These pearls are the most affordable natural pearl widely available today, especially when compared to Salt Water Pearls such as Akoya, Tahitian and South Sea Pearls. Because freshwater pearls are natural, they are never perfectly round and will vary in size, shape and colour. They are cold to the touch and are slightly heavier than glass pearls. To check whether you have the real deal, inspect the drilled hole, it should be a perfect hole without wrinkles around the hole. It is not easily chipped or scratched.
Glass Pearl Bead – these are synthetic or man-made beads, and are artificially made to resemble real pearls. The pearls are made out of materials such as glass, plastic and mollusc shell. They are perfectly round and are uniform in size, colour, lustre and shape with no surface blemishes. These pearl beads are light weight and easily scratched/damaged, however if well taken care of, they will last for many years.

Our beading materials are hand-picked to minimise the chance of allergic reactions to the material. This ensures that our customers enjoy the beauty of our products without any allergic side effects. For weaving and threading we use fish line for added durability and rigidity to the product. Where needed, a strong beading thread is used to enhance flexibility.
Jewellery Maintenance
Although we pride ourselves in selling you a wide variety of cost effective high quality jewellery, taking personal care of jewellery is the only way to ensure that jewellery remains in pristine condition. Our jewellery is not designed for heavy duty or sportswear, but is purely for adorning oneself on a day-to-day basis or special occasions. Chemicals such as perfumes, detergents, bleaches and acids can harm your jewellery.
Below are some ways to properly care for your jewellery and to keep it in pristine condition:
- Remove your ring or bracelet when you are working in the kitchen, to prevent it from being chipped, scratched etc.
- Remove your jewellery when showering or bathing, bathing soap can stain the thread and also dull the lustre/polish of the crystals and pearls.
- Remove your jewellery when you are going to take part in physical activities involves contact, running or friction etc.
- Only wear your jewellery after perfumes and makeup have been applied, not the other way around, to avoid staining your jewellery with the perfume or makeup.
- Store your jewellery at room temperature and hang each piece separately or place each in its own separate box/gift bag. This will prevent your jewellery from being chipped or scratched due to chafing with other jewellery.
